West Hawaii Explorations Academy opens applications
Applications are available for West Hawaii Explorations Academy’s 2018-2019 school year for grades six through 12. Applications are available online at whea.net beginning today. Applications are based on a lottery system.
West Hawaii Explorations Academy is a public charter school that offers students a challenging curriculum in a project-based setting. While WHEA is project-based, and offers numerous hands-on learning experiences, there is also a focus on expository non-fiction writing and organizational skills.
“First-year” high school students primarily join teacher-directed projects, while experienced WHEA high students propose self-selected projects in their second through fourth years. Middle School students actively investigate hands-on research projects and compose project-related documents, and also have opportunities to propose group projects based on their ideas.
Campus tours are available by appointment. A free campus tour is offered on the last Tuesday of each month at 11 a.m.; reservations are required.
